Golfers from organisations across London and Hertfordshire enjoyed a day filled with sunshine, food and fundraising at the Hartsbourne Golf & Country Club in Bushey. The charity golf day was organised to raise much needed funds for Hertsmere Mencap, a self-funding local charity that provides vital advice, activities and support for children and adults with learning disabilities and their families.

Sponsored by Pelicans Manufacturing, local companies West One and BHE Hub and law firm Grower Freeman, the charity event saw generosity displayed by all the golfers and a high standard of game on the golf course, with the Penta Court team led by Andy Landesberg scooping the first team prize.

The golf day swang into action with breakfast and a performance by Trick-shot artist Jeremy Dale, who astonished people with his ability to hit balls from a six-foot high tee straight down the fairway while standing on a big rubber ball. The generosity of the players continued after lunch at the auction, conducted by Cllr Morris Bright MBE, Leader of Hertsmere Borough Council, raising nearly £6,000.

Paul Moser, Chair of Hertsmere Mencap expressed his delight at the successful day:

“The money raised today enables us to move much closer towards our goal of purchasing a much needed new minibus, to benefit hundreds of our members and to rebuild the garage that houses it.

I want to thank each and every one of the golfers who played and displayed such generosity. I also want to thank all the volunteers who helped to meticulously plan and coordinate the day, which ran like clockwork.”

Chair of The Golf Committee, Edmund Grower said:

“A tremendous amount of work goes into the success of this event. All the players enjoyed the excellent course and facilities at the club and were all delighted to be supporting such an important cause.”
