Our mission is to transform the lives of learning disabled children and adults and their families in the Borough of Hertsmere. They are at the heart of everything we do.
Started by a group of parents in 1964, we are still run by parents, along with a dedicated group of volunteers and five part-time staff.
Our local vision is for people with learning disabilities in Hertsmere to be valued equally, listened to and included and for them to be able to lead fulfilling lives.
We provide a wide range of day activities for adults 18+, a children’s holiday club, an evening social club, an evening youth club and an employment training course to support our members into employment.
We offer advice and support to our members and their families. on issues such as housing, benefits, relationships, finances and welfare.
I enjoy helping at Mencap because the people are friendly. There is a great sense of camaraderie and it’s heartening to see people overcoming their problems

Hertsmere Mencap activities are good fun and I enjoy seeing my friends and talking to them.
