About Hertsmere Mencap’s Holiday Club:
We accept children with learning disabilities aged 5-16 yrs, who reside in Hertfordshire.
We are currently partly funded by Hertfordshire County Council, however, we rely heavily on donations for resources such as additional staff, equipment, trips and activities. We are registered under the Hertfordshire Council’s SBLO (Short Breaks) scheme and registration to access our Holiday Club is required (please enquire for further details).
The Holiday Club currently runs for one week at Easter and approximately four weeks during the Summer holidays, Monday – Friday 10.00am – 2.00pm. We also hold activity days during the Christmas holidays as well as our annual Christmas party.
Hertsmere Mencap’s Holiday Club has an extensive range of policies that are available to parents/carers. Our 2016 Ofsted inspection rated us as meeting all requirements. Their report reflects the high standards that we adhere to in caring for our children; this can be accessed via the Ofsted website.
Daily cost: £3.50 per hour
For a full report please access the Ofsted website www.reports.ofsted.gov.uk
Where we are:
We run from a local school in Borehamwood.
What we offer:
We provide fun and stimulating activities which are age and stage appropriate depending on the individual needs of each child, for example, creative and sensory play, music, entertainment, sports and cooking. Wherever possible, we plan outings to adventure playgrounds, farms, sailing, theatre and bowling. We also have many planned external organisations visiting Holiday Club, providing exciting activities for the children to access.
Caring for your children:
We have an open-door policy, and welcome parents and carers into Holiday Club each day. On arrival, you and your child will be introduced to a named member of staff who is responsible for each child’s individual care. We prioritise the safety of all our children and will ensure every child’s individual needs are met as far as is possible; our Children and Youth Coordinator regularly communicates with parents/carers throughout the duration of Holiday Club.
Children bring their own packed lunch and water bottle; and lunchtime at Holiday Club is very social, with staff and children eating together inside or having a picnic outside. Any drinks and snacks that are provided by us will consider any dietary requirements. Medication can be administered where necessary, with the consent of a parent/carer, ensuring all policies and procedures are met and adhered to.
Vacancies:
Job opportunities are available for Play Assistants and volunteers.
We are currently looking for Play Assistants (paid staff) and also Volunteers for our forthcoming Holiday Club.
For further details, visit our Vacancies page.

Our son loved attending the summer holiday club. The staff are all lovely, attentive and fun. He really enjoyed all the activities available to him and looks forward to attending every year. In my son’s words: “it’s brilliant to go to”.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has looked after our son whilst he was at camp. He came home very happy every day after camp and the staff did an excellent job to understand and meet his needs.
