A soul filled jazz night complete with a three course French inspired menu for 100 guests was the place to be last night at a fundraising evening hosted by Councillor Victor Eni, Mayor of Elstree and his wife Martine to raise much needed money for Hertsmere Mencap, a local charity dedicated to supporting people with a disability and their families.

Hertsmere Mencap launched its new promotional video to raise awareness around the subject of learning disability and show how lives have been transformed as a result of its services.

Hertsmere Mencap provides support and advice along with daily activities for adults with learning disabilities. Arts and crafts, music and drama, indoor tennis and aerobics are just some of the workshops that are offered to adults with learning disabilities at a highly subsidised rate. The outcome for those who attend activities has been increased confidence, new skills learned and new friendships. Hertsmere Mencap also operates ‘Noah’s Ark,’ a play scheme for children with a disability and their siblings during school holidays, to enable them to have a great time, while their parents receive much needed respite.

“I have chosen Hertsmere Mencap as my Charity of the Year because of their hard work to support our friends with a learning disability in our community. Every day they help people reach their potential and encourage them away from isolation. Everyone should be valued equally and I am proud to be part of a charity that seeks to achieve that aim. I would also like to thank Chef Jean Luc Sainlo who cooked up the most wonderful meal for a fraction of what he should have charged us.

– Cllr Victor Eni

“We are thrilled that Councillor Eni has nominated us as his chosen charity. We encourage anyone from the community with a learning disability in need of advice or support, or simply to make new friends, to get in touch. We rely heavily on volunteers and generous donations in order to sustain our services, so all money raised will contribute directly to transforming the lives of people who face difficult challenges each day.”

– Paul Moser, Chair of Hertsmere Mencap
