Jazz evening

The Mayor, Cllr Victor Eni and his wife Martine, hosted a lively Jazz evening to raise funds for Hertsmere Mencap. With around 100 people in attendance at the three-course dinner, more than £900 was collected, all of which has been donated to Hertsmere Mencap.

Day activities/Jubilee Club

Our activities are proving very popular. A revised programme will be published in January. For more information, contact Sian Kenrick, Activity coordinator on 07938 722619. Alyson Gnessen will be taking over as leader of the Jubilee Club from Sian starting from January 2019. We will be saying goodbye to Sian at the Jubilee Club party on Wednesday 12th December.

Christmas Parties

Our annual Christmas parties were great fun. For the adults, there was a buffet dinner and dancing, with DJ Will Smith playing everyone’s favourite tunes. Linda Tanner was the winner of this year’s Roy Pursey Award, for her contribution to Hertsmere Mencap and the Mayor Cllr Victor Eni presented her certificate. £145 was made on the raffle, while £95 was made from the table sales. The majority of the items for sale were provided by Sheila Carlisle on behalf of Gratitude and some were created by our very own art class.

Meanwhile, the children from Noah’s Ark playscheme enjoyed their party and were delighted with a surprise visit from four bikers, who let them take it in turns to sit on their enormous bikes, raising £200 for the play scheme. For more information on Noahs Ark, contact Rochelle Gould, Play-scheme coordinator on 020 8906 2783.

TESCO Bags of Help grant

Hertsmere Mencap has been chosen to take part in the customer vote for a Bags of Help grant from Tesco. It’s a scheme which gives community projects like us grants of up to £4,000 – all raised from the sale of carrier bags in Tesco stores. The public will vote in store during January & February 2019 in Borehamwood Tesco on who should receive the awards. Please get ready to support us in your local store, by putting your blue tokens into the Hertsmere Mencap collection.

Please tell all your family and friends to support us as well.

We wish all of our lovely members a happy and healthy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year
